PLANT LORE: Vitex is a medicinal plant of antiquity, mentioned in the writings of Theophrastus (the father of botany), Dioscorides (who wrote an herbal book used for centuries) and others during the 4th Century BC. Also, seeds of the Vitex tree were used during the Great Depression as a pepper substitute - hence the name Pepper Tree.

How to grow Montrose Purple Vitex/Chaste trees:
. Select a location that provides adequate sunlight, water, and soil requirements [see above]
. Water Vitex trees regularly until established and during dry spells for optimum performance
. Fertilize Montrose Purple Chaste trees in early spring
. Prune as necessary to maintain shape (optional)
. Maintain a mulch layer to conserve soil moisture and minimize pesky weeds
